Applications
The versatility and adaptation to clients’ requirements of bioSiC® generates a wide range of industrial applications in diverse sectors:
Structural parts:
BioSiC® shows appropriate properties for its massive use in numerous applications in which elements with good mechanical features at high temperature are required. It is possible to utilize bioSiC® pins for joining parts, improving their structural behavior. It can be applied as fireproof assembly pieces into wooden structures in construction and as reinforcing heat-resistant concrete in the steel industry.
Heating elements:
Silicon carbide is the ideal material to be used as high temperature resistors. When fabricating SiC through traditional methods it is difficult to obtain complex shapes, but bioSiC® resistors are fabricated into the clients’ required shape, and show optimum tairolable electrical properties.
Resistant devices with electrical conductivity:
Mobile electrical conductive components working in chemically aggressive environments, subjected to high friction or intense corrosion, need to be made with a material with multifuntional character. BioSiC® is an ideal material for the fabrication of these devices.
High temperature heat exchangers/filters:
Advances with the fabrication of bioSiC® parts in complex shapes have proven the viability of their use as heat absorbers. For their use as high temperature filters, bioSiC® parts can be adapted to the exact shape of the nozzle, and show a high erosion resistance. It is also possible to respond to clients’ needs in relation of piece thickness and sieve size.
Furnace furniture:
The excellent thermal properties offered by bioSiC® make it a suitable material for its use in furnaces and firing systems. Equipment used in high temperature heating systems can be fabricated from bioSiC®, so industrial applications include a wide range of sectors: ceramics, glass, metallurgical and chemical.
Medical implants
The main challenge of implant technology is the development of a new generation of lightweight materials for implants, reliable and durable with superior mechanical properties and better biological response.
